About Kontiki Dive Resort
Located in Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Kontiki Dive Resort Mactan is a cornerstone of the Cebuano diving scene. While it may not boast the same world-class visibility or marine biodiversity as Moalboal or Bohol, it is arguably the most versatile training ground in the region—catering to everyone from first-time snorkelers to elite deep divers.
A Training Ground for All Levels
The unique underwater topography of Kontiki makes it a rare “all-in-one” destination:
- For Beginners: The resort offers convenient shore entry into shallow reef areas and sandy patches. Generally calm conditions during the dry season make it ideal for introductory courses, buoyancy control, and initial equalization practice.
- For Advanced Divers: Just a short swim from the shore, the reef drops off into a steep wall that plunges into the Mactan Channel. This vertical drop provides immediate access to extreme depths, making it one of the few spots in the Philippines where advanced training up to 100 meters is logistically feasible from the shore. This deep-water access has made Kontiki a hub for national record-setters and technical freedivers honing their deep-depth protocols.
Unmatched Accessibility
Its biggest advantage is its location within the heart of Lapu-Lapu City. It is easily reachable via the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and sits just a short drive from Mactan–Cebu International Airport and The Mactan Newtown.
The Verdict: Whether you are looking for a quick afternoon snorkeling session near the city or are an elite athlete training for a 100-meter CWT (Constant Weight) dive, Kontiki remains a practical, accessible, and high-performance choice for the diving community.
